Charles V — colonial despot, ruthless emperor, or enlightened ruler? Charles was probably all three. The glories of his Imperial Chapel endure today. Highlights of this evening’s concert will be the Missa Caro mea by Clemens, and the astounding Magnificat Tertii et octavi toni by Gombert along with state motets from various official occasions.
